When a woman is on her period, bleeding is accompanied with any of these symptoms like nausea, vomiting, sense hypersensitivity, cramps, acne breakout, breast tenderness, bloating, cravings and more. Sometimes it’s even a combination of these symptoms. However, this doesn’t mean you should just shove every symptom you experience into the ‘it’s a part of it’ box even when your gut is already telling you that something is wrong. Remember, you know your own cycle, if something happens out of the ordinary, don’t ignore it!
When You Didn’t Get It
Most women, at least at some point in their life, have wished they were born as a male so that they didn’t get periods. That explains how much of an inconvenience and uncomfortable periods can be. But believe it or not, your cycle skipping can be just as much of a pain as getting it monthly because this could require medical attention if pregnancy isn’t the reason why it skipped. Reasons may include:
- Intense exercise or sudden/significant weight loss. Since body fat is necessary to manufacture hormones that control your menstrual cycle, losing too much of it too quickly can stop your period altogether.
- Weight gain. Just as sudden and significant weight loss throws off your cycle, the opposite can also do the same. Being on birth control pill for an extended period of time. Pills provide the body hormones that help you not get pregnant. Being on any kind of that pill continuously for too long may keep your cycle from happening on a monthly basis.
- Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). With this condition, a hormone imbalance leads to irregular periods and the growth of cysts in the ovaries.
- Extreme stress. Even if you haven’t had any problems with your cycle before, you may find that it will start going out of whack when you experience extreme stress.
- Perimenopause. This is basically the period leading up to menopause. You kind of get a couple of years where it will fluctuate because your estrogen levels are starting to decline before menopause happens which means the bleeding stopped coming for 12 consecutive months.
When It’s Heavier Than Usual
Some women get light flows from start to finish while others get heavy ones throughout their cycle. It will differ from woman to woman and that’s normal. But no matter your flow, once you feel like you’ve been bleeding too much that it comes with fatigue or shortness of breath, it may be time to see your doctor. There are a lot of health conditions that may be causing your heavy bleeding from endometriosis, hormone imbalance, fibroid or polyps, to pregnancy complications and even cancer.
It’s Too Short Or Too Long
Two to seven days is normal. After a while, you’ll get an idea how long yours are typically gonna be. If the duration shortened or extended all of a sudden you need to check in with your doctor because it may be a sign of problems like hormone imbalance, fibroids, or polyps.
The Pain Started To Level Up
Different women experience different period symptoms. While pain is common for some others don’t experience pain at all. But for those who experience cramps every month, though painful, you might have learned how to manage it. But if the pain started to increase and your usual pain management no longer helps, you may be looking at issues like fibroids, an IUD, endometriosis, adenomyosis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), or stress.
Chiropractic care can actually help with period pain! A healthy spine is vital for every organ on our body since they all need nerve supply from it in order to function properly. So you can imagine how it’s going to be in case a back pain or neck pain is present in someone’s body. Most often than not, a spinal misalignment is the cause of those pain which triggers menstrual pain too.
With that, chiropractic adjustment can help solve that problem. In Singapore, chiropractors can perform manual adjustments to correct any kind of subluxation that is causing interference in the nervous system and bringing discomfort in the body. Aside from that, the reason why you should start considering chiropractic adjustment is that it’s a natural method of treatment, so you don’t have to worry about any side effects just like in pain killers.
You Started Bleeding In Between Periods
It’s bad enough that you bleed every month, bleeding in between periods is just cruel. It feels like you can’t catch a break. While this may happen from time to time especially if there are some changes in your daily routine, other times may require a trip to the OB/GYNE. Those times may be when skipping or changing birth control pills, contacting STDs like chlamydia or gonorrhea, PCOS, an injury to the vagina (such as during sex), uterine polyps or fibroids, pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage, perimenopause, cervical, ovarian, or uterine cancer.
You’re Experiencing Pain On Your Breast
Tender breasts are a common symptom that indicates you’re about to have your period. It’s also a symptom that may last through the duration of your period. But if you’re experiencing this pain when you’re not even on your period, get it checked. While pain in the breast isn’t a known sign if breast cancer, it still could be a symptom of something else.
You Get Diarrhea Or Vomit While On Period
We know that your stomach tends to get upset whenever you have your monthly visitor over. But if you’re getting both of these, don’t just bear it. Ask your doctor about it.
