Chiropractic care is a very effective way to relieve pain and achieve overall wellness. However, for first time chiropractic patients know that you may feel sick afterwards but will only be temporary. You should know that this is not because the doctor did something wrong or the adjustment itself, but actually a natural reaction of your body called toxic release.
What happen is that, the toxins in your body are being released by the spinal manipulation which causes temporary unpleasant symptoms through the process of expelling these toxins. Since your body is adjusting with this change, you will feel sick afterwards so don’t be put off by this thinking that this alternative treatment doesn’t help.
To be more prepared for your first visit, here are the symptoms that you may experience:
1. Lethargy
Hours following your first session, you’ll feel very tired as if all your energy escaped your body. But don’t be alarmed, this is just because your body is reacting to the chemical and electrical impulse the nerves sent throughout your body when your spine was snapped back into proper alignment. You see, when you have subluxations, your body is actually denied of this regularly. So it would be somewhat of a shock in your body to feel it all at once again.
2. Headache
Having misalignments in your body blocks your body and mind natural flow of communication. It would almost be like a water hose having multiple knots which results to water unable to flow throughout the hose at its optimal level. The same goes for your body, the presence of subluxation disrupts the flow of energy causing pressure to build up. So when these blockages gets cleared out, your body will go through some temporary adjustment which is why you end up having a headache or cold-like symptoms.
3. Night Time Sweating
The sudden rush of energy in your body when you get adjusted may make your body feel hot. So do not freak out when you experience night time sweating since your body is simply trying to cool itself down.
4. Tight Muscles
Misalignments don’t just screw your bones and joints, the muscles surrounding them also gets strained trying to support the unnatural posture or position you develop due to the subluxation. Soreness around the subluxation is normal because it’s the area where muscles have been pulling for a long time, so moving them any differently, even in their proper alignment, will cause some discomfort.
These symptoms don’t last, but you can rest assured that once you’re body have adjusted with chiropractic treatments it’ll all be worth it and you feel the many health benefits of chiropractic care.
